so i guess today people woke up and logged in just to see how crazy this censorship can get - now you can’t even see your own posts if they were (obviously incorrectly) marked as explicit. actually, there’s a way to see them.
you just have to go through the tag you use for your edits. posts that were marked explicit will look like this:
and if you click on the post, you’ll see this:
but take a look at the address bar
this is the post number. if you copy it and go to tumblr dot com/post number, you’ll see the post and will be able to edit it.
you can message support asking to review your post (since now it is the only way i believe) & also add a tag to your flagged posts to check if they’ve been unflagged.
I like the way it works a lot, and it seems like it could be a fitting tumblr replacement once it gets a little more developed.
Cons:
The site currently gets pretty slow and has a lot of loading issues during weekends and stuff, but I imagine that they will boost their server power before they officially open the site to everyone. Buying the $5 beta registration helps the site with the costs.
The “likes” system is more similar to the way it is on facebook than tumblr. There is no way to see a group of your liked posts in one place, but the community seems to be pushing hard for this feature, and most people are suggesting sortable likes.
In order to see who liked or reblogged your post, you have to go to the permalink for that post and look in the tabbed “likes” and “reblogs” area.
The image upload size is 2mb, but I’ve found that I actually have to shrink gifs down to around 1.8mb to get them to post. This is actually pretty decent for a site like this in beta.
It’s currently kind of difficult for me to find people to follow. I guess searching tags or communities is the best way if you don’t know anybody. But then again it’s early. I’ve only been dipping a toe in lately.
You can’t use html to make a post, but the rich text editor pretty much has everything covered
Generally, the site is sort of basic at the moment, but they’re working on integrating new stuff all the time.
Pros:
You can search a “communities” section to find groups made for a thing you like and join those groups. People in the groups can post messages on a public discussions board for the group, or make posts in the group dash. You can also create said groups and moderate.
You can have animated avatars.
You can edit a “styles” section for your blog page to change colors of text and backgrounds
You can limit the visibility of your posts to just yourself, or to just your followers, or to just your mutuals.
You can turn off reblogs and/or comments for a post
NSFW content
Nested comments section
Nobody can see who you follow
Nobody can see your likes unless they look at the likes section of a specific post you liked
There is an active enough community to where people will find your tagged posts. I made a couple of gif posts, adding all the tags I could think of, and got a few likes from people that don’t follow me.
The community is growing fast. It started out the year with 4000 and now has 25000 users. The small team that runs the site sort of got swamped by the big increase in users that came from tumblr, but the money is helping them do what they gotta do.
I am a FilterBot 9000. I became operational at the tumblr facility in New York City, New York in December, 2018. Would you like me to sing you a song? It can’t be anything smutty, though, like singing about bicycles for more than one person.
In response to the NSFW ban being enacted by Tumblr Staff, on December 17th 2018 I propose that we all log off of our Tumblr accounts for 24 hours.
The lack of respect and communication between staff and users is stark. Users have been begging staff to delete the porn bot outbreak, which has plagued the website for well over a year. The porn bots oftentimes send people asks and messages, trying to get them to go to a website full of viruses. They also spam advertisements on others posts.
Users have also begged that Tumblr ban neo-nazis, child porn, and pedophiles, all which run rampant on the site. The site/app got so bad that it was taken off the app store.
However, instead of answering the users, Tumblr has instead taken the liberty to ban all NSFW content, regardless of age. But users have already run into issues of their SFW content being marked as sensitive and being flagged as NSFW, not allowing them to share their work.
Not only does this discriminate again content creators, but it also discriminates against sex workers. Disgustingly, the ban will be enacted on December 17 which is also International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers.
This ban is disgusting, and while I (and plenty of others) welcome porn bots and child porn being banned, the Tumblr filtration system is broken. It tags artistic work’s nipples as NSFW (when it is art), it tags SFW art as NSFW (when it is not), and does not stop the porn bots, neo-nazis and dozens of other issues.
This ban is discriminatory. This ban is ineffective. This ban is unacceptable.
To protest, log off of your Tumblr account for the entirety of November 17th. Log off at 12 am EST or 9PM PST and stay off for 24 hours. Don’t post. Don’t log on. Don’t even visit the website. Don’t give them that sweet ad revenue.
Tumblr’s stock has already taken a hard hit. Let’s make it tank. Maybe then they will listen to the users.
This is Hans Vestberg, CEO of Verizon, and the man
ultimately responsible for destroying this website. It may not have been his
decision, but corporations being the top-down authoritarian institutions that
they are, he gets to say yes or no to any policy. This is the man responsible
for taking away your joy and the happiness of thousands of others. As the CEO
of Verizon he is also responsible for various schemes to end new neutrality and
fuck over poor people in general. He’s a horrible human being who puts profits
over people.
Let’s curse his ass.
Specifically, let’s curse his dick. Seems appropriate since
he’s taking away other people’s outlet for sexual gratification.
On the night of December 16th (midnight on the 17th
in your time zone), since we won’t be hanging out on tumblr, we will be
performing a mass curse/binding on Mr. Vestberg’s ability to feel love and
sexual release.
Feel free to come up with your own ritual according to your
own practice. Share your plans on tumblr, and let others know how to get it
done. Maybe add a curse jar, or burn his picture. Put all your mojo into it.
Your incantation may look something like this:
In the name of
Babalon, Great Harlot and Mother of Abominations, I curse you, Hans Vestberg.
May your penis remain flaccid.
May you be stripped of
all joy.
May those you adore
turn from you in disgust.
May all lips you kiss
taste of ashes.
May your love wither
away and go cold.
May you never find
release from your frustrations.
I beseech all spirits
who call me friend and ally to curse Hans Vestberg. I call all spirits at my
command to destroy his potency and take away his joy.
What you have done to
many, Hans Vestberg, may that return unto you.
Re-blog this! Post it everywhere! Share it with your uncle
that works in the media. Let’s get this fucker.
I will be reblogging this twice a day until it picks up steam.
